Discovering an ant infestation in your home can start a seemingly never-ending process of trying to get rid of the bugs. These pests often show up in the hundreds or thousands, and they can be difficult to eliminate.

Here are a few home remedies that you might try. If these solutions don’t work, then it is essential that you call a pest control specialist as soon as possible for professional help:

Boric Acid Ant Bait

Boric acid is a poison to ants, but they won’t eat it alone. Mix these ingredients together:

  • A few tablespoons of peanut butter
  • A few tablespoons of honey
  • 3/4 teaspoon boric acid

Stir well to combine everything. Leave small spoonfuls near the areas where you see the ants. These insects will eat the poison and take it back to the queen. Be careful to keep pets and children away from the boric acid.

Lemon Juice or Vinegar

Throw off their tracking sense with a strong smell like lemon juice or vinegar. Put it in a spray bottle and mist the areas where the ants are clustered.

Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth

Sprinkle dry diatomaceous earth around the areas where the ants are coming into your living space. This treatment won’t kill the ants right away, but you will notice results after about a week. For prevention, you might consider sprinkling the diatomaceous earth around the perimeter of your home.

Sometimes, these home remedies will work to get rid of the infestation. But, other times you will need to call a pest control team.
