How to Stay Focused on Business Goals Through the Holidays

November and December are often times when entrepreneurs and business professionals relax a little bit, with the intention to start fresh with new goals in January. Even though it is important that you spend time with the people that you love, don’t let go of all of your business goals during this time of year. With a little bit of work, you can maintain your focus and still make progress on your goals, without sacrificing the time that you should be spending with family.

Maintaining Consistency

The key is to maintain the consistent habits that you have built this year. Just because you are enjoying eggnog or a turkey dinner, doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t work on your goals for the week. Look for ways that you can continue with some of the habits that have been formed.

For example, if you have been working on morning productivity, then make it a point to maintain a few hours of productivity before spending time with the family later in the day. If you can’t dedicate an hour or two, keep the habit by dedicating 15 minutes to work on your goal. The consistency is more important than the amount of time that you spend each day.

Balancing Work and Holiday Celebrations

Don’t work so hard that your family misses you during the holidays. At the same time, don’t let the holidays over-run your work projects. Put together a list of priorities so that you can maximize your time and find a good balance between the activities that need to be done.

Make sure that you commit fully to the activity at hand. Instead of spending time with the family and checking your phone every ten minutes, set the phone aside to engage with the family without distraction. Then, set aside a few minutes after the party to check emails and messages in case any work tasks need to be addressed. Dividing out your time is a great way to ensure that you can meet the needs of everyone at work and at home.

The end of the year is a great time to maximize your results for the year, while preparing to start the new year on the right foot. It can be helpful to have a business coach who will keep you on track during this time of year.
